Harbour Wind does not currently have a preferred location. If you are a landowner interested in more information than please feel free to contact us.
The ideal location:
- Consistent strong wind
- Close to roads and Orion’s 33kV power lines
- Minimal visual impact
- Has no high or national significance for Maori, heritage, endangered
flora & fauna
The ideal landowner:
- Interested in a reliable, long-term source of passive income
- Happy to work with Harbour Wind through the gestation process (approximately
two years including 12 months of wind data acquisition)
- Understands that he or she will sign a contract for exclusive wind rights
with Harbour Wind
A wind cluster on your property?
Pros:
- A reliable income stream based on electricity generated
- Compatible and efficient land use in conjunction with agricultural farming
- Livestock unaffected by turbines
Cons:
- New infrastructure (roading, transmission lines) may be required to
connect to the Orion network. This will be paid for by Harbour Wind.
- There may be opposition to the wind cluster because of visual impact
or other reasons including but not limited to; noise, aircraft radar interference,
bird collision, unique geological location, area of Maori cultural significance,
reflected light etc.
